Lights Out

About:

Lights Out is a 2D arcade survival game. The player is a candle avoiding puddles and rain drops in order to keep its flame a blaze. As the game progresses more rain falls making it harder on the player to avoid incoming raindrops. Players can collect pixies to keep their flame lit so that they can survive longer and perhaps reach a higher score. Once the players flame is extinguished its GAME OVER.

  

Role:

  • Lead Game Designer

    • I created the main game play which included dodging incoming objects and surviving to reach a high score.

    • I also created the unique mechanic where the candle's flame is its life and vision source. The flame gives a vision radius, allowing the player adequate reaction time when at full health. Radius is reduced when struck by a raindrop or comes in contact with a puddle.

Problem: Scoping the environmental effects in order to meet strict deadlines

Solution: Made executive decisions to cut certain environment effects that were not important and which did not make or break our game play-ability
